Center for Counselor Training and Research

The mission of the Center for Counselor Training and Research (CCTR) is to provide a laboratory-based setting in which graduate-level counseling students are provided an opportunity to develop and practice the use of skills necessary to provide counseling services to children and adults. Similarly, the CCTR supports opportunities to develop skills necessary administer and interpret cognitive and achievement tests for diagnosticians. Additionally, the CCTR offers a setting for conducting research related to counselor and diagnostician training.
The CCTR currently has 5 rooms equipped with two way mirrors so that students enrolled in EDPC 5338 (Group Counseling), EDPC 5339 (Counseling Techniques), EDPC 5371 (Counseling Practicum), EDPC 5372 (Counseling Internship I), EDPC 5373 (Internship II), EDPC 5344 (Use and Interpretation of Cognitive Measures), and EDPC 5348 (Application of Assessment for Decision Making or Pre Practicum) can be observed by supervisors and faculty members during group and individual training sessions and during the administration of individual achievement and cognitive tests. Students enrolled in these courses are better prepared to provided counseling services and administer tests. Over 40 different test instruments and protocols used by the students enrolled in the Educational Diagnostician Masters Program are stored in the CCTR. This secured room that can only be accessed by certain faculty members in the Educational Psychology and Special Services Department and a Graduate Assistant. Students may check out test materials as required by their assessment courses. The lab is open in the afternoons for students to check out materials. In addition, the CCTR provides an opportunity to conduct or observe an actual counseling session under the supervision of a member of the counseling faculty.

What times/days are services available?

At this time services are available 3 afternoons a week. Times change depending on the requirements of each semester. Classes meet in the CCTR daily.

The CCTR has 5 observation rooms equipped with tables and chairs, sound system, two way mirrors, video-taping cameras, and 1 computer that the graduate Assistant uses for assessment check-out procedures. No data is available on square footage of the facility.

The Literacy Education Center is conveniently located in rooms 308 –312 of the Education Building. The Center supports the educational, research, and service missions of the College of Education and the Department of Teacher Education.

COE Science Laboratory
The COE Science Laboratory is an educational setting that provides both graduate and undergraduate education students access to practical science and technology materials as well as methods for direct classroom instruction. The classroom provides a rich setting wherein students can explore the integration of content and pedagogy. The environment also integrates effective technology and materials that can be applied in hands-on experiments and projects.

The mission of the classroom facility is to provide a rich educational setting for teachers to explore, engage, discover and explain concepts and to present an integrated approach to math, science and technology. The goals for the classroom are to equip teachers to better understand content and concepts in science, mathematics and technology and to provide opportunities for teachers to improve their abilities to facilitate learning within a science classroom. The classroom helps students achieve success by providing a modern facility that is an educational resource to students, families, educators and schools and by helping to develop learning environments where students can improve their knowledge about scientific, mathematical and technological concepts.

The classroom facility is available for students and staff during all regular classroom hours, including evenings and weekend classes as scheduled.

The science laboratory/classroom is used primarily by College of Education professors who teach in the area of science and/or technology education.

The square footage of the facility is 1,380 sq. ft. The classroom has 16 student computers complete with appropriate software to access science and technology equipment, as well as one instructor machine that is connected to a projection unit.
