Welcome to the Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations (EDLF)
Our fine faculty is committed to providing quality and professional education, research, scholarship and service to the greater El Paso region, southwestern United States and the nation.
Through the context of our bi-national location we train leaders for the contemporary challenges in education with an innovative interdisciplinary approach. Graduates of our programs are educated to incorporate ideas, values and experiences that reflect a pluralistic society with an eye on social justice. We combine theory, practice, research and service to create a supportive environment to nurture the development of scholars in practice who will lead in a variety of educational settings including K-12, Higher Education, Adult Education and the non-profit sector.
The department currently offers three degree programs and two certification options that can be tailored to meet your career and educational goals. The Principal and Superintendent Certification programs train practicing educators to exceed State Board of Education Certification objectives in preparation of state examinations. Our masters levels degree options include programs in Educational Administration concentrating in either the K-12 or Higher Education setting. Opportunities are available for pursing the M.Ed. or M.A. (thesis option) in either concentration area while students pursuing K-12 Educational Administration may incorporate principal certification in their degree plan.
At the doctoral level, the Ed.D. program in Educational Leadership and Administration offers broad training for individuals interested leadership roles in all aspects of the educational continuum. Typically, graduates of our programs enter general career areas that include Central Office Leadership (with superintendent certification), School Site Leadership, Leadership in Other Educational Settings (e.g., Higher Education, Adult Education, non-profit), or Educational Policy and Evaluation.
