Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in Education

On March 6, 1967, Texas Western College became the University of Texas at El Paso. In addition, the School of Arts and Sciences was reorganized into four schools—one of them being the School of Education. Six years later in 1973, the School of Education became the College of Education. Over these many decades, we have proudly prepared and graduated thousands of teachers, counselors, administrators, and leaders. While our name has changed our mission has remained the same in providing our students a high-quality education.

We look forward to celebrating 50 years since becoming a separate unit on the UTEP campus. During the 2017-18 academic year, many events will be hosted that will acknowledge our past, present, and future graduates. Homecoming Week will be particularly busy as we recognize the new Gold Nugget recipients and welcome back to campus our many alumni. Teacher Appreciation Night during the final Miner football of the season will provide us with an opportunity to acknowledge hundreds of UTEP graduates who are currently employed in school districts throughout Region XIX. Pre-commencement and commencement will offer a time to celebrate with our newest graduates. Overall, it is going to be an eventful year.
